Samsung's promise of 4-year software updates for Galaxy smartphones brings a twist!

Last month, Samsung announced that it would offer four years of software support for several Galaxy devices. The chaebol has been paying extra attention to its software game ever since it released OneUI software. Any Galaxy smartphone released since 2019 is part of this new software support. Samsung previously promised three major software updates for these same devices.

Three major Android updates, along with four years of security updates, sounds pretty enticing, but there's a catch. Here's what Samsung recently announced about its four-year software support promise.

Samsung Galaxy Software Support for Four Years Explained!

As you might have guessed, Samsung offers two or three major updates depending on the model of your smartphone or tablet. According to new information from Samsung itself, the company plans to offer monthly security patches for its high-end smartphones and enterprise devices. For mid-range and high-end flagships, Samsung will offer quarterly updates. As we get closer to the end of the term, the company will send updates less frequently. This means that we consider security patches every two years, which means two updates per year.

The fact that Samsung is still offering two updates per year on the fourth term is pretty good. It really is better than not updating the software at all. What's more, most Android brands still don't promise anything like that. It will be interesting to see if Samsung can keep up with the new promise. Galaxy devices released in 2017 and 2018 are already part of the biennial security patch Here is a list of these devices.

  • Galaxy S8 Lite, Note FE
  • Galaxy A6, A6 +, A7 (2018), A8 + (2018) A8 Star, A8s, A9 (2018)
  • Samsung Galaxy J2 Core, J3 (2017), J3 Top, J4, J4 +, J4 Core, J5, J6, J6 +, J7, J7 Duo, J7 Prime 2, J7 Pop, J7 Max, J7 Neo, J7 +, J8
  • Samsung Galaxy M10, M20
  • Tab A, Tab A 10.5, Tab S3, Tab S4, and Tab E 8 Refresh

All these devices date from 2017 or 2018. With that said, Samsung will continue to add more devices to the list in the coming months.

I have always been interested in IT technologies. And since my previous many years of professional activity (which is design and pre-press preparation) is not possible without their help, it so happened that everything that was related to computers (for example, collecting and modernizing "hardware", as well as configuring software ) I always had to do it myself.

Well, with the advent of gadgets in our lives, the scope of my interests expanded to include them as well.

I like to study and analyze the capabilities of various devices, and for many years, before buying anything new, I always study the capabilities of each potential model for a long time and carefully, spend quite a long and painstaking work, read reviews, reviews and comparisons.

The reward for my time is usually that most of the time I really do get the best of what I can get within my budget.
