Forget 5G, something more spicy is on the way. 5G-Advanced, also known as 5.5G or 5GA, is the next standard for mobile communications. Many reports point to the significant efforts that technology companies are making to make 5.5G a reality. And so, the first smartphones with 5.5G support were announced, starting with the Oppo Find X7 series.
5.5G should not only provide higher speeds, but also improve overall network performance. The network promises to be 300% faster, with speeds of up to 10 Gbps downstream and 1 Gbps upstream. In addition, key features such as network segmentation and artificial intelligence (AI) will help improve network communication. China Mobile is actively working to make 5.5G available, with plans to cover more than 2024 major cities by 300, prioritizing metropolises such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
The Oppo Find X7 series received 5.5G support
The latest achievement was the integration of 5.5G support into smartphones. A post by Pete Lau, Oppo's Chief Product Officer, hints that the Oppo Find X7 Ultra will run on 5GA connectivity. The company has officially announced that even the regular Oppo Find X7 will support this new connectivity, making it the first of its kind.
The basic Oppo Find X7 is equipped with a Dimensity 9300 processor, while the Ultra version is equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen3. Both models will support the new 5G-Advanced standard. This development paves the way for many smartphones to adopt the latest network technologies. It will be interesting to see how 5.5G differs from 5G in real-world usage scenarios.
