After two generations of premium devices, Nothing is preparing to launch a new mid-range smartphone called the Nothing Phone (2a). The new smartphone will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Soc processor and will have most of the features that make Nothing phones stand out from the rest. Today, a sketch of the smartphone confirmed a new rear camera design and a change to the glyph interface. For those who don't know, a glyph interface consists of a set of individual LED zones. They can light up in unison or separately, creating a unique light show. They can serve for notifications, calls, etc. This is one of the most unique features of the Nothing phones, and now the company is planning bring it to the market of the middle price segment.
A single sketch is not enough to fully understand the design of the phone. However, it features a smaller glyph interface and a circular camera island with two arrows.
Under the hood of the Nothing Phone (2a) will be a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC. This chipset has 2 ARM Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 2,8GHz and 6 ARM Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 2,0GHz. This chipset provides decent performance for application use and moderate gaming. The Nothing Phone (2a) has the model number A142 and the codenames Pacman / Aero.
The firmware leak reveals some details in the process
In addition to the already known specifications, the user Kamila (@Za_Raczke) shared the firmware of the phone. She gave more details about the camera and display specs. Wallpapers for the phone also appeared.
The Nothing Phone 2a has a 6,7-inch panel, just like the Nothing Phone (2), with a resolution of 2,412 x 1,084. The screen is manufactured by Chinese companies Visionox and BOE with the model number rm692h5 and is claimed to be an AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.
The new information also confirms that the Nothing Phone (2a) is equipped with a 50-megapixel 1/1,5″ Samsung S5KGN9 sensor, as well as a 50-megapixel Samsung S5KJN1 ultra-wide-angle camera with a 1/2,76″ resolution. Front camera on 32 MP Sony IMX615.
The leak also confirms the presence of multiple model variants such as PacmanIND (India), Pacman JPN (Japan), PacmanEEA (Europe) and Pacman (Global). This indicates the launch of the smartphone in the respective regions. Nothing is planned for MWC 2024 on February 27. The company could use this opportunity to launch a new smartphone.
