Nokia announced the creation of an open innovation laboratory in Dubai. The goal of this lab is to promote technological innovation in the Middle East and Africa. The company also hopes to foster new technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML). The Nokia Innovation Lab will be the center of research and development in this large region. The company said the new lab will focus on three important areas that will bring practical benefits to operators and businesses:
1. anyRAN solution for 5G communication
Nokia says its anyRAN solution will help transform cloud RAN into a solution that can be used alongside dedicated RAN to ensure consistent performance. This approach provides a wide range of flexible options for technology providers. It will also create an operating environment to meet operators' and enterprises' needs for openness and efficiency.
2. Private wireless networks and industrial networks
The laboratory will present Industry 4.0 usage examples based on the market-leading Nokia MX Industrial Edge (MXIE) platform. This will help enterprises accelerate the transition to Industry 4.0 in the region.
3. MantaRay solutions in the field of network intelligence
Nokia seeks to expand the application of AI and ML solutions for network automation and optimization. This lab will use the Nokia MantaRay portfolio of intelligent network management and automation solutions.
Mikko Lavanti, senior vice president of Nokia, said, “We are delighted to open the Open Innovation Lab in the Middle East and Africa region. This confirms our commitment to work with partners such as Dell and HP in key technology areas of the future. This cooperation will contribute to the introduction of new technologies in the region. We can help operators and businesses improve network efficiency and productivity and open up new opportunities."
