In case you missed it, Apple's Mac Pro with the M2 Ultra was unveiled at WWDC just a few days ago. The M2 Ultra is the highest-end Apple silicon you can get. It's also one of the fastest chipsets a current generation workstation can have. This applies to both computing and graphics performance.
With such a great chipset, you'd expect the new Apple Mac Pro to run smoothly, right? Well, right after startup, the system shows problems with the SATA drives. To be precise, SATA drives are disabled when the system comes out of sleep mode. But the good news is that Apple has addressed the issue in a support document.
More details about the problem
If you are not familiar with the SATA problem in Apple Mac Pro, it mainly concerns the ports available for connecting internal hard drives. The bug is on the software side, which disables hard drives when the device wakes up from sleep.
This strange bug can hinder the workflow of users who have just purchased a Mac Pro. And considering the fact that the starting price of the system is $6,999, things are not going very well for Apple. Moreover, you wouldn't expect a device with such high specs to show such a problem immediately after launch.
There is a temporary workaround for the 2023 Apple Mac Pro issue
As previously mentioned, Apple has acknowledged the issue with the 2023 Apple Mac Pro. And together with the coverage of this problem in official document of support, Apple said it is working on a solution. It will be released soon macOS update, which will solve the problem and ensure uninterrupted operation of SATA drives.
But until Apple releases an update to fix the bug, you can take the following steps to temporarily resolve the issue:
- Go to βSettingsβ on your 2023 Apple Mac Pro
- Go to βDisplayβ and then βAdvancedβ
- Find βDisable sleep when display is offβ
- Disable this option.
