Get ready for something epic, my friends. Apple's WWDC 2023 will begin on June 5. Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is an annual event where Apple showcases its latest software and hardware innovations to developers. This year's WWDC, which will last from June 5 to 9, promises many interesting announcements. Of course, numerous Apple software platforms will be presented on stage. It's likely that we'll see new versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS.
But this year, Apple is rumored to be announcing a whole new product category — the first mixed reality headset, likely called Reality Pro, and the accompanying new xrOS operating system. There are also rumors about a new MacBook Air. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but these are all the announcements we expect at WWDC 2023.
Apple's first mixed reality headset
It's been long-awaited, and it's probably one of the more exciting surprises we've been hoping to see at Apple's WWDC 2023. Apple has not yet confirmed its existence. But there have been many reports that Apple will launch a new category of products in its ecosystem at the event.
The headgear, called Reality Pro, will be a self-contained gadget with its own battery, an ultra-high-resolution 8K display and advanced eye-tracking technology. It is also reported to have up to 15 cameras that will track users' eye movements in detail, creating a truly immersive experience.
However, there are also some concerns about the headset's price. According to some reports, it can cost up to $3,000. That would double the price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max and limit its appeal to high-end users.
xrOS
If Apple announces Reality Pro, it will almost certainly come with xROS. According to reports, xROS will look and feel similar to Apple's current operating systems. But it will be designed for a new type of interaction that combines eye tracking and hand movements. xROS will also have its own App Store and will be able to run apps for iPhone and iPad. While not much is known about xROS, we can be sure that Apple will finalize it for its headset, as software has always been the company's forte.
The new 15-inch MacBook Air
Additionally, Apple is expected to unveil the 2023-inch MacBook Air at WWDC 15. The MacBook Air lineup has always consisted of 13-inch models, but that may change this year. The 15-inch MacBook Air will most likely feature the proprietary M2 chip used in the MacBook Air models released last year. It can also have the same 3024 x 1964 resolution as the 14-inch MacBook Pro.
In terms of design, the new MacBook Air will look identical to the 13-inch variant. That is, it will be thin and light, with a wedge-shaped profile and a fanless design. It is expected to have a cutout in the display for a webcam, as well as MagSafe charging and a Touch ID sensor.
New OS on different platforms
At WWDC 2023, Apple is expected to announce new software updates for its devices. These updates will include iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, tvOS 17, and watchOS 10.
App Store.
Not much is known about iPadOS 17, macOS 14 and tvOS 17. But watchOS 10 is expected to get a major update with a new interface packed with widgets.
