The POCO F series is usually one of the most hyped lines in the smartphone segment. Of course, this is the fruit of the appeal that has remained since the days of the Pocophone F1. Today, POCO is mostly a brand that rebrands existing Redmi or Xiaomi phones. In any case, this is usually the only offer of certain phones for international users. POCO F5 and POCO F5 Pro are highly anticipated. The latter could be a redesigned Redmi K60 that is exclusive to China. The second appears to be a rebrand of the yet-to-be-released Redmi Note 12 Turbo. According to the new report, POCO F5 5G with Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 will be launched on April 6.
The reign begins on April 6
According to a new report, it looks like the POCO F5 will neglected in India in just a few weeks. Unlike previous generations, it looks like the POCO F5 won't be powered by a Snapdragon 800 series processor. Instead, we'll have the all-new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. The chipset isn't too far from flagship performance, either way. As we said above, the device will be the Redmi Note 12 Turbo version. We expect the Redmi Note 12 Turbo to launch in the next few days. Thus, it will set the stage for the launch of POCO F5 in India and global markets.
While the report mentions India, we're pretty sure the phone will hit international markets on the same date as well. The POCO X5 and POCO X5 Pro were launched in international markets, while the Indian market got the Pro version on the same day. A few days ago, the Indian market got the base variant. So, the POCO F5 release shouldn't be much different.
Estimated specifications of POCO F5
Based on the Redmi Note 12 Turbo leaks, we know what to expect from the POCO F5. According to the leaks, the POCO F5 will have a 6,67-inch AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz. This is usual place for Xiaomi. The phone will also have Full HD+ resolution and an under-screen fingerprint scanner. This will be a first for the Redmi Note 12 family, as all other devices have a side-mounted scanner. Of course, the same function will be present on POCO F5.
POCO F5 will also impress with a 5500mAh battery with 67W fast charging. The device will also have a 50MP primary camera and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera. We expect a third 2-megapixel decorative sensor, possibly a macro or depth sensor. The device will most likely run Android 13 with MIUI 14 on top.
F5 Pro
We wonder if the F5 Pro will arrive alongside the POCO F5 or if April 6 will be exclusive to the POCO F5. According to the leaks, the Pro is a redesigned Redmi K60. This means it will get the same 6,67-inch OLED display, but the resolution will be slightly higher at 3200 x 1440 pixels. It's a trendy 1,5K resolution that's trending among Chinese brands right now. The device will also be equipped with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of built-in storage — we don't know if all variants will make it to global markets.
The F5 Pro should retain the 64MP main camera with OIS, 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro sensor. The device also has stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. The battery is the same, at 5500 mAh, with support for fast charging with a power of 67 W. The biggest difference should be 30W wireless charging, which shouldn't be available on the vanilla POCO F5.
We expect POCO to start a pre-launch teaser campaign. So stay tuned for news on the F5 series.
