The soon-to-be-released AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX will be team red's flagship mobile processor this year. Now, while we don't have a launch date yet, the CPU has just been spotted in benchmarks. And judging by the numbers, AMD could be extremely competitive in the gaming laptop market this year.
Judging by what the numbers show, the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX is miles ahead of its last generation equivalents. And the most interesting thing is that it managed to beat the best current Intel processors. That's also because it has far fewer cores than the competition.
AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX takes the lead
The Zen 4 line of mobile processors was first announced at CES 2023. And while the announcement was fairly recent, it looks like the CPU is starting to make its way into laptops. First we saw the test results of the Ryzen 9 7845HX. And now we have the test results of AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX.
So what does the benchmark actually show? The numbers are taken from Geekbench 5, but let's talk about the specs. The CPU that stands out belongs to a line aimed at gamers called the "Dragon Range". This AMD flagship chip has 16 cores and 32 threads.
When it comes to clock speed, the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX can reach 5,4GHz at 55W. But we expect it to increase when the chip uses its full TDP, which is 75W.
Compared to the previous generation, the new Ryzen 9 7945HX has twice the number of cores. That is, AMD's top mobile chip last year had 8 cores and 16 threads.
Comparative results
Geekbench 5 reveals the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 laptop. And in case you didn't know, the Zephyrus Duo lineup consists of the best dual-screen laptops out there. All models even have the latest and greatest features. So it's no surprise that it will appear alongside the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX.
However, we don't actually know which GPU the laptop used. But judging by previous trends, Asus has probably integrated one of the best GPUs from Nvidia. The laptop also has 32 GB of DDR5 RAM.
At the same time, the laptop with the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor received 2217 points in the single-core test and 19403 in the multi-core test. Thanks to these ratings, the laptop occupies the first positions in the leaderboard among laptops, as well as among desktop processors. Yes, AMD is taking on the best desktop processors with the 7945HX.
All that said, with these numbers AMD 7945HX is currently the best mobile chip in terms of single-core performance. And the best part is that it is not that far behind the Intel i9 13980HX in terms of multi-core tests.
However, the average score is slightly lower. So, taking that into account, Intel is actually going to be the winner. However, the advantage between the Intel chip and the AMD 7945HX is not so great.
It is also very interesting to see how the new chip closes on the desktop Ryzen 9 7900X in single-core. In fact, it almost keeps up with the 7950X. And you can't forget that there is a huge difference in terms of TDP.
We are talking about 55 W versus 170 W. So, in short, the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX really does a great job in these benchmarks. And we can't wait for laptops with these chips to finally be released to the world.
