OnePlus kicked off 2022 with the launch of the OnePlus 10 Pro. The Pro variant, which packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, has arrived alone and should be joined by the base and R variants in the near future. Meanwhile, the company is launching the 2022 season for the OnePlus Nord series. Interestingly, it won't start with the OnePlus Nord 3 or the rumored OnePlus Nord 2 update. Instead, the company will introduce a follow-up to the Nord CE, which will apparently be called the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G.
The OnePlus Nord CE 5G was originally released as a premium version of the OnePlus Nord. The device shares the same design but packs a weaker Snapdragon 750G, which is slower than the Snapdragon 765G on the original Nord. The device, all things considered, was well received and for that reason, OnePlus is preparing a sequel. The growing OnePlus Nord family will receive a new member on February 17. Ahead of the launch, the company released a couple of teasers to build up the hype. Today's information confirms that the OnePlus Nord CE 5G will feature a 64MP triple camera with AI enhancements.
As always, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G will have only three cameras. The triple-camera system will come with a 64-megapixel module, but the company did not specify the sensor. We'd bet on the OmniVion camera, given the company's silence. In any case, there will be many improvements to the software for image quality and providing outstanding image performance. The specifications of the other cameras are unclear. With all that, they will come with AI camera features, including AI-backlit video.
Key features of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G
Other confirmed specifications of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G include the MediaTek Dimensity 900 SoC. It contains two ARM Cortex-A78 cores and is manufactured using the 6nm standard. Other features include USB Type C port, 3,5mm headphone jack. Interestingly, the phone will come with 65W SuperVOOC charging, but the battery capacity is unclear. We assume that this device is 4500 mAh.
The device will also have a dedicated micro SD card slot for expansion up to 1TB. The latest teaser shared by the company confirmed the Bahama Blue color scheme. We already know that it will be available in Gray Mirror or Mirror Grey. The device will be eligible for two major Android updates, but will still ship with Android 11.
With only a few hours left, we don't expect any new teasers to appear. We'll get to know the phone in all its glory and see if it's a worthy contender in this competitive mid-range market.
