TOP-24 countries whose citizens are addicted to smartphones

Recently, researchers from McGill University in Canada published a study on the use of smartphones by almost 35 people in 000 countries around the world between 24 and 2014. Among them, Chinese users take the first place in terms of dependence on mobile phones. The research was published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior. Judging by published research results, China, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia are in the top three. Canada ranks seventh, Japan 2020th, the United States 15th, and Germany 18th. Only two countries from Africa are on the list of countries whose citizens are most dependent on smartphones. Egypt tops the list at number 24, while Nigeria comes second at number 9.

According to the article, the subjects of this study are young people, whose average age is 28,8 years. In addition, 60% of the study participants are women. From 2014 to 2020, the problem of smartphone users around the world is becoming more and more serious. However, this trend will not end anytime soon.

The researchers say that one possible explanation for the differences in performance across countries is social norms and cultural expectations. Many of these users need motivation through their smartphones. In fact, many of them have their businesses and livelihoods tied to their smartphones.

A set of comparisons was popular on the Internet a few years ago. All subway passengers in a certain country are reading books and newspapers, while most people on the subway in China are looking at their cell phones. Later it turned out that the country where passengers read newspapers is only because the mobile network in the subway is not available. However, in the same region, after the commercialization of 5G, the situation is no different from China.

Countries whose citizens are most dependent on smartphones

1. China

The Chinese smartphone market is the largest smartphone market in the world. With over 2021 billion smartphones sold in 1,5, it's no wonder it's on the top spot. This is because the more people in a region, the higher the probability of multiple user characters appearing.

2. Saudi Arabia

Given the enormous pace of development of the oil-rich Middle Eastern country, we expect nothing less. There are at least 21 million smartphone users in Saudi Arabia, and popular brands include Apple, Huawei and Samsung.

3. Malaysia

Malaysia is another oil-rich country with a large number of smartphones. Most users in this region prefer Android smartphones, in particular Huawei and Samsung. However, Apple has a decent user base in Malaysia.

4. Brazil

Brazil is the fourth country on the list and this country prefers Samsung smartphones. However, users here still buy smartphones from Motorola, Huawei and Apple.

5. South Korea

South Korea is home to many technological advances, so the level of smartphone addiction is no surprise. A couple of big manufacturers like Samsung and LG hail from South Korea. In addition, South Korea is the first country to commercialize the new 5G network. It also has the second largest number of 5G users in the world, behind only China.

6. Iran

Phone users in Iran were a surprise here. While we can't say why users in Iran are addicted to smartphones, we do know that Iran doesn't have as much internet freedom as other regions. Users in Iran cannot access YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Telegram, Snapchat, and Medium. In addition, the Iranian government also blocks some streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu. According to reports, as of 2013, about half of the world's top 500 websites are unavailable in Iran. Also, if you like health, science, sports, news, pornography and shopping, you may face some restrictions. However, this does not prevent Iranian users from being addicted to smartphones. Samsung, Xiaomi and Huawei are the most popular smartphones in Iran

7. Canada

Smartphone sales in Canada easily exceed 30 million. In Canada, the top brands are Apple (obviously), Samsung, and surprisingly, Huawei. Despite the regular busy schedule in the North American country, its citizens are still addicted to smartphones.

8. Turkey

Higher taxes in Turkey make smartphones more expensive in this transcontinental country than in Europe. Most of Turkey is in Western Asia, and part of the country is in Eastern Europe. This market loves smartphones from Xiaomi, Samsung and Apple.

9. Egypt

It is the first African country on the list of countries whose citizens are addicted to smartphones. As in Turkey, Egyptians love Xiaomi, Samsung and Apple smartphones in equal proportions. Well, as in Iran, Egypt has a number of prohibitions. You won't have full access to popular apps like Skype, Facebook Messenger, FaceTime, and WhatsApp without a VPN.

10. Nepal

A small landlocked country in South Asia, it is best known for having the highest peak on earth, Mount Everest. However, according to this study, Nepalis are also addicted to smartphones. Samsung and Xiaomi are clear leaders in the smartphone market. However, Oppo, Vivo, Apple and Huawei with similar market shares lag far behind.

11. Italy

If we consider Turkey as an Asian country, Italy is the first European country on this list. In addition, we can say that Italy is the first fully European country on this list. This suggests that Europeans are not very dependent on smartphones.

12. Australia

As of November last year, the iPhone was the best-selling smartphone in the Oceania country. Samsung and Huawei also have decent shares of the smartphone market in Australia.

13. Israel

The Middle Eastern country on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea is also dependent on smartphones. Samsung is the leader in the smartphone market. However, we also have companies like Xiaomi and Apple that have a significant market share.

14. Serbia

Serbia is only the second European country on this list. Here, Samsung has a firm hold on the smartphone market, with Apple, Xiaomi and Huawei not far behind.

15. Japan

Any region with advanced technology is not an unexpected member of this list. Japan was once an industrial heavyweight. Even at this point, the Asian island is still a strong force in the technology industry. Samsung, Huawei and Apple are the main smartphone brands in the Japanese smartphone market.

16. United Kingdom

The UK is a small but diverse smartphone market. Companies like Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi have decent and similar market shares.

17. India

India is the second largest smartphone market in the world, second only to China. More than 120 million smartphones are sold annually in this market. Xiaomi has been leading the Indian smartphone market for about three years in a row. Despite the mass sale of smartphones, the region is not so dependent on smartphones.

18. United States of America

The US is the third largest smartphone market in the world. It is second only to China and India. Apple, one of the world's largest smartphone brands, hails from the United States. More than 55% of US smartphone users use an iPhone.

19. Romania

Another European country on this list is Romania. Smartphone users in this country prefer Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi and Motorola smartphones.

20. Nigeria

The most populous and largest black nation, Nigeria, with a population of over 200 million people, is also dependent on smartphones. However, this country is the only market where Samsung or Apple are not the preferred brands. Nigerians love smartphones from Transsion Holdings, which includes brands like Tecno, Itel and Infinix. While Tecno and Infinix have the highest market share in Nigeria, Samsung and Apple are far behind.

The other four countries on the list are European countries, including Belgium, Switzerland, France and Germany.

Visnovok

This list shows that Asians are more dependent on smartphones, followed by Europeans. There are 8 countries on the list in both Asia and Europe. However, most Asian countries are at the top of the list, while European countries are at the bottom.

I have always been interested in IT technologies. And since my previous many years of professional activity (which is design and pre-press preparation) is not possible without their help, it so happened that everything that was related to computers (for example, collecting and modernizing "hardware", as well as configuring software ) I always had to do it myself.

Well, with the advent of gadgets in our lives, the scope of my interests expanded to include them as well.

I like to study and analyze the capabilities of various devices, and for many years, before buying anything new, I always study the capabilities of each potential model for a long time and carefully, spend quite a long and painstaking work, read reviews, reviews and comparisons.

The reward for my time is usually that most of the time I really do get the best of what I can get within my budget.
