Windows 11 finally reached its full status in early October. At least that was the date Microsoft chose to officially launch its new major OS update. Meanwhile, development of the OS continues, and insiders are still testing some of the features that were available at initial launch.
According to recent reports, Windows 11 has certain apps and features that are not working properly. The reason for this behavior is related to a certificate that expired on October 31. Microsoft has started warning users about this.
The expired certificates issue affects applications including the Snipping Tool, the Accounts page, and the Settings landing page if you're in S-mode. Other features include touch keyboard, voice typing, emoji panel, input method editor interface, getting started and tips.
There is an additional update for Windows 11 that fixes some of the issues
Fortunately, there are fixes for these problems. According to the source, users just need to go to Windows Update and get the additional update KB5006746. It was deployed a few days ago, on October 25. Unfortunately, a small problem is that users must choose to install additional updates through Windows Update. In other words, this patch will not be installed automatically.
You can always check which build of Windows 11 you're running by pressing the Win key and typing winver. If you are using build 22000.282, you can already install it. If you're using an earlier version, go to Settings >> Windows Update to get the latest version of the software.
In terms of fixes, this update fixes issues with the touch keyboard, voice typing, emoji bar, IME, startup, and tips. As for the Snipping Tool, Microsoft recommends using the Print Screen key to take a screenshot.
The next step is to paste it into a program like Paint. Perhaps Microsoft will eventually be able to resolve the Snipping Tool problem by simply adding a new version of the app to the Microsoft Store. However, for now, the company makes it clear that it is working on a solution for the tool and S-mode. An update with the fix should arrive for all users at a later date.
If you can put off the problematic issues for a few days, next Tuesday is Fix Tuesday. In other words, all supported versions of Windows will receive updates, and these updates are optional. If you do nothing, the patch will automatically install in the background at some point.
