New PS5: Smaller radiator and risk of overheating

A couple of days ago, the first reports about the new PS5 model began to appear on the network. This new version of Sony's latest console has turned out to be lighter and is sold in Japan, Australia and the US. For comparison, it weighs 300 grams less than the old models.

Outwardly, the console is completely similar to the old models, with the exception of the screw for fastening the stand under the console. However, according to a new report, the cause of the weight loss has been identified, and it is a cause for concern.

Popular YouTuber Austin Evans discovered the difference. He opened the console on his Youtube channel and claims that the radiator has become smaller in the new model. That's why Sony managed to make the PlayStation 5 lose 300 grams. However, as a result of this change, the heat emanating from the console has become higher - it emits 3-5 degrees of heat more than the older model.

Apparently, the controversial change in the PS5 is to cut costs

The radiator transfers the heat released by the console to the outside, in this case through the air. This is an important component for controlling the temperature of the console. By downsizing this important component, Sony has decided to sacrifice something, and it may compromise performance in the future.

So far, the company has not explained why it made this change to the internal design of the console. It's unusual for consoles to change so early in their lifecycle. Users are concerned that the console is less than a year old and it has already gone through such important changes. No one knows for sure how the "original version" will hold up over time, nor does anyone know how this lighter model will hold up with such a reduced radiator.

Apparently, a smaller heatsink could lower the PS5's production costs. As you may know, Sony started selling the PS5 at a price of $499 for the disc drive unit and $399 for the digital model. The company started losing money, but said in a recent statement that it no longer has a loss with the PlayStation 5.

PlayStation 5 is another product affected by the crisis in the semiconductor market. According to Sony representatives, the situation may improve in mid-2022.

I have always been interested in IT technologies. And since my previous many years of professional activity (which is design and pre-press preparation) is not possible without their help, it so happened that everything that was related to computers (for example, collecting and modernizing "hardware", as well as configuring software ) I always had to do it myself.

Well, with the advent of gadgets in our lives, the scope of my interests expanded to include them as well.

I like to study and analyze the capabilities of various devices, and for many years, before buying anything new, I always study the capabilities of each potential model for a long time and carefully, spend quite a long and painstaking work, read reviews, reviews and comparisons.

The reward for my time is usually that most of the time I really do get the best of what I can get within my budget.
