The upcoming successor to the Microsoft Surface Duo has been the subject of several leaks, speculations and theories. Earlier this year, the final design prototype of the Surface Duo 2 appeared online.
The updated design included a new camera on the back and a glass back panel. Moreover, it was assumed that the device will come in white and black color options with top-notch hardware under the hood. Details about the Surface Duo 2 launch date are still scarce.
Microsoft Surface Duo 2 spotted on Geekbench
Over the past few weeks, there have been several leaks related to the Surface Duo 2. Now, the upcoming device has appeared on Geekbench ahead of its official launch.
The Geekbench benchmark listing gives us an idea of the specifications of the Surface Duo 2. Also, the previous benchmark listing suggests that the Surface Duo 2 will come with a Snapdragon 888 SoC and run Android 11 out of the box, according to a Droid report.
Specifications, release date and availability
The Microsoft Surface Duo 2 scored 1071 points in the single-core test and 3166 points in the multi-core test in the Geekbench 5 test. In addition, the Geekbench listing will feature a Snapdragon 888 SoC paired with a high-performance Adreno 660 GPU.
To top it all off, it will have 8GB of RAM while running on the latest version of Android 11. Unfortunately, the preliminary test doesn't shed light on other details like the display, sensors, cameras, and more.
However, a previously revealed leak hinted at a triple camera setup. The device will feature a triple camera setup with a standard lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a telephoto lens on the back.
In addition, Microsoft could include an optimized bootloader in the Surface Duo 2 without drastically changing its design. While the Surface Duo 2 may retain the design of its predecessor, it will likely offer improved specs. It can also support 5G and NFC.
The tech giant has kept the launch details of the Surface Duo 2 under wraps. However, Microsoft may release the device sometime in October or September this year. Moreover, the appearance of the device in the test suggests that more detailed information will most likely appear on the Internet in the near future.
