OPPO is defining the future of photography today: the company has introduced innovative image processing technologies

Today, the world's leading smart device brand OPPO held the presentation of "2021 OPPO Future Imaging Technology". During the online event, the company demonstrated a series of innovations in the field of image processing technologies for smartphones: updated sensors, modules and algorithms. OPPO has focused on self-development and optimization of core image processing technologies so that users can "capture the beauty of life easily".

Innovations include OPPO's next-generation RGBW sensor, OPPO's 85-200mm continuous optical zoom, OPPO Five-axis OIS technology, and a new-generation underscreen camera with patented AI algorithms. Using modern technology, OPPO has made a great technological leap, covering various imaging capabilities such as light sensitivity, zoom, stabilization, preliminary research on the form factor of the future product, and much more.

The new generation RGBW sensor increases light sensitivity and improves color characteristics

OPPO's next-generation RGBW sensor significantly improves light sensitivity thanks to additional white sub-pixels (W), innovative DTI technology and the company's proprietary 4-in-1 pixel algorithm. The new sensor, unlike its predecessors, captures 60% more light, achieving a 35% reduction in noise and enabling sharper, brighter images in low light.

The new generation RGBW sensor is manufactured using the most advanced production and processing technologies. This increases the computing power required to run complex algorithms and the amount of data mined with white pixels. OPPO's patented 4-in-1 pixel algorithm helps to significantly improve the color characteristics of the sensor, preventing such problems as inaccurate color rendering and moiré patterns. And industry-leading DTI pixel isolation technology and DeepSi processing eliminate sub-pixel crosstalk and improve image quality.

The next-generation RGBW sensor not only makes low-light photography easier, but also makes portraits more expressive in both photos and videos by enhancing skin tone, texture and contrast. OPPO gadgets will be equipped with a new sensor from the fourth quarter of 2021.

The new module is a continuous optical zoom of 85-200 mm without loss of quality, which changes the design of the basic structural module at the hardware level:

  • it uses G + P (glass + plastic) lens technology for the first time, introducing two ultra-thin high-precision aspherical glass lenses to significantly enhance optical effects, in particular to minimize stray light;
  • the innovative use of the tunnel magnetoresistance sensor (TMR sensor) allows the lenses to move more stably and precisely in the camera module;
  • an upgraded guide shaft motor increases the dynamic tilt at which the lens system can move, easily supporting continuous optical zoom without losing quality at higher magnifications.

These innovations support continuous optical zoom at equivalent focal lengths from 85mm to 200mm, delivering sharp images at any zoom level, from close-ups and portraits to landscapes, without the need for cropping. In addition, this technology avoids common problems such as jitter, white balance inaccuracy or color distortion that can occur with conventional multi-camera zoom systems.

New Algorithm: OPPO's developed algorithms support the next-generation under-display camera, ensuring a balance of display and camera quality

OPPO also demonstrated a new generation under-screen camera for smartphones. Innovative pixel geometry provides high image quality with a resolution of 400 pixels per inch in the sub-screen camera area. And transparent wiring and a new design allow you to get a higher quality display with a smoother visual perception. The pixel scheme that controls only one pixel on the screen ("1-to-1") and OPPO's precise algorithmic compensation technology allow better control of the color and brightness of the display, with a deviation of only about 2%, and extend the life of the display up to 50% .

To meet the changing demands of users for photography and videography, OPPO continues to expand its global research and development capabilities. The company already has 6 research institutes, 5 research and development centers and dozens of laboratories around the world, including a new imaging laboratory in Hyderabad, India, and a laboratory in Yokohama, Japan responsible for creating imaging technologies for the OPPO Reno series. The company will continue to introduce its own image processing technologies and deepen cooperation with industry partners to provide the best user experience.

I have always been interested in IT technologies. And since my previous many years of professional activity (which is design and pre-press preparation) is not possible without their help, it so happened that everything that was related to computers (for example, collecting and modernizing "hardware", as well as configuring software ) I always had to do it myself.

Well, with the advent of gadgets in our lives, the scope of my interests expanded to include them as well.

I like to study and analyze the capabilities of various devices, and for many years, before buying anything new, I always study the capabilities of each potential model for a long time and carefully, spend quite a long and painstaking work, read reviews, reviews and comparisons.

The reward for my time is usually that most of the time I really do get the best of what I can get within my budget.
