Many people choose Android smartphones because the operating system is much more open compared to iOS devices.
On Android devices, users can install custom ROMs. Some may wonder why there is a need to install third-party ROMs. Different users install custom ROMs for different reasons.
Custom ROMs may offer more features than the default ROM. Also, older devices that no longer receive updates may prefer custom ROMs over the default ROMs. According to a recent survey androidauthority, a large portion of Android users do not use the default ROM. The result shows that only 21,80% of Android users have never used a third-party ROM.
Looking at the overall situation, more than 70% of Android users have used third-party ROMs, 26% have never used them, and 35% are currently using them. This result is solely from the Android authority poll, but very popular.
There were about 28 participants from the Twitter and YouTube websites. All three platforms did not have similar results. Above are the results from Androidauthority website, in which there were a little more than 7000 voters.
Twitter has just under 5000 members. The result shows that about 62% of users have tested a custom ROM at some point. Of that number, 17% still use third-party systems, while 45% use third-party systems. This means that the remaining 38% had nothing to do with third-party systems.
On YouTube, the result is also different from the website and Twitter. A YouTube survey of over 16 users shows that 000% of users have tried third-party ROMs at some point. While 56% still use third-party systems, 14% no longer use them.
Custom ROMs are losing popularity
However, according to this survey, many people have previously used third-party systems. Although there is no detailed reason, everyone has updated because the official ROM may not be easy to use and there are many limitations. Second, a third-party ROM is simpler and perhaps more convenient.
Over the past few years, there have been fewer Android users flashing custom ROMs. Many Chinese Android skins, such as Xiaomi's MIUI, Huawei's EMUI, Oppo's ColorOS or Vivo's OrginOS, are much more powerful and easier to use. Of course, the most important thing is that the third-party ROM is mostly blocked by the manufacturers, otherwise it will be fun.
As a rule, due to significant software improvements and new security features, users no longer see the need to tamper with their systems. However, a significant number of Android users still use custom ROMs. The survey shows that only one in five users still use third-party ROMs.
