Huawei drops out of China's TOP 5: the rise of Xiaomi and Honor

Today, IDC officially released a report showing smartphone shipments to the Chinese market for the second quarter of 2021.

According to the report, shipments of the Chinese smartphone market in the second quarter of 2021 reached approximately 78,1 million units. This is a year-on-year decrease of 11,0%. In the first half of 2021, total shipments to the Chinese market reached 164 million units, up 6,5% year-on-year. In terms of individual performance, the top 5 manufacturers are Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, Apple and Honor.

For the first time in many years, Huawei is not included in the TOP-5 list in China. Looking at the annual growth rate, Xiaomi takes the lead with 47% growth.

According to Lu Weibing, the president of Xiaomi in China, Xiaomi's annual growth may be the fastest, but it still has a long way to go. According to IDC, there is a gap of 5 million units between Xiaomi and first place Vivo. Also, there is a gap of 3 million units between Xiaomi and second place Oppo. With all that, Apple in the fourth position is also about 5 million units away from Xiaomi.

According to Canalys' report for the global smartphone market, Xiaomi requires 17% market share to topple Apple. This is the first time that Xiaomi is ranked second in the world, behind only Samsung.

With the further "shrinking" of Huawei's mobile phone business, there is more opportunity for the likes of Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo.

Honor is included in the TOP-5 rating

Returning to China, the ranking of specific suppliers shows that Vivo is in the first position with 18,6 million units. The company also has a market share of 23,8%. Oppo is in second place with 16,5 million units shipped and a market share of 21,1%. Xiaomi ranks third with shipments of 13,04 million units and a market share of 17,2%. Apple is in fourth place with 8,6 million units shipped and a market share of 10,9%.

Surprisingly, Honor is in fifth place with a total shipment of 6,9 million units and a market share of 8,9%. This is quite interesting considering that Honor only recently became independent from Huawei and can be considered as a "new" company.

Five big brands account for 64% of the Chinese market. Despite the absence of Huawei, it appears that the vacuum it left cannot be completely filled by other manufacturers. Although Huawei still makes smartphones, the company barely competes.

The Chinese manufacturer is simply fighting for its survival. IDC зазначив, що з точки зору структури ринку серед п’ятірки найкращих постачальників усі чотири найкращі постачальники мають значне зростання з року в рік. Однак вони все ще не можуть компенсувати різке зниження загального ринку.

I have always been interested in IT technologies. And since my previous many years of professional activity (which is design and pre-press preparation) is not possible without their help, it so happened that everything that was related to computers (for example, collecting and modernizing "hardware", as well as configuring software ) I always had to do it myself.

Well, with the advent of gadgets in our lives, the scope of my interests expanded to include them as well.

I like to study and analyze the capabilities of various devices, and for many years, before buying anything new, I always study the capabilities of each potential model for a long time and carefully, spend quite a long and painstaking work, read reviews, reviews and comparisons.

The reward for my time is usually that most of the time I really do get the best of what I can get within my budget.
