The coronavirus epidemic and the lockdown on the planet changed almost everything. Since people were unable to go to work, school, etc., and had to work and study at home, they needed not only appropriate devices, but also software.
We know that the tablet and laptop markets have started to progress like a shot. But we can say the same about different programs. Zoom, which won the most, also got a number of rivals. Microsoft, Google, Facebook and others quickly developed similar programs or made changes to existing ones.
And one of these features was group video chat.
We recently learned that Telegram has added a group video chat feature to its mobile and desktop versions of the app. In fact, Telegram promised this back in April 2020. Its voice chats (in any group) now also support group video chat. Users just need to tap the camera icon to enable video.
However, there are some limitations. If you don't know, Telegram allows an unlimited number of users to participate in an audio call. But the group video chat feature only allows 30 people to join the call.
Of course, this number will be increased in the near future. But at the moment, only the first 30 users can interact using Telegram video chat. Before, like other similar platforms/features, users can share their screens during a video call.
Not only group video chat, but also screen sharing
Telegram is considered one of the most secure messaging platforms. But it started gaining momentum only recently. In January, Telegram CEO Pavlo Durov said, that the company reached 500 million active users. As you can guess, many of them migrated from WhatsApp to Facebook.
The latter announced changes in its policy, which forced many users to leave it and find more secure applications. Telegram won the most.
Of course, every user is important to WhatsApp. But even after changing its privacy policy in February, it still had more than 2 billion users. As a reminder, WhatsApp added the group video and voice calling feature back in 2018.
Well, group video chat is definitely a must-have feature. But that's not the only new feature Telegram has announced recently. It also added other new ones, including improved noise reduction and animated backgrounds.
Users on both iOS and Android can choose from several default options or create their own animated backgrounds. And we're guessing more options are on the way.
