DxOMark: the Redmi Note 10 Pro camera is no worse than the iPhone XS Max

Experts came to this conclusion DxOMark, who tested the Redmi Note 10 Pro camera. In their opinion, this smartphone can be called a balanced budget camera phone. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro doesn't rival most flagships in terms of camera quality, but it's a valuable proposition for mobile photographers on a budget.

It received an average score of 106 (111 points for photo capabilities and 95 points for video quality), and it is far from the top of the DxOMark ranking - it took 72nd place. But at the same time, it shoots better than the former flagships Oppo Find X2 Neo, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and iPhone SE (2020), and has the same score as the iPhone XS Max.

Among the strengths of the Redmi Note 10 Pro camera, experts noted the accuracy of the bokeh effect in portrait shots, a high level of detail with sufficient external lighting, and accurate exposure. Experts liked the good white balance and skin tone when shooting indoor videos, and the well-controlled video noise.

The shortcomings of the Redmi Note 10 Pro camera include a limited dynamic range when recording video, failures in autofocus, low detail when creating enlarged images, as well as halos in frames in motion. They also noted the often noticeable green tint in photos taken outdoors.

From the findings of DxOMark, we can say that the Redmi Note 10 Pro produces exactly the kind of shots that should be expected from a smartphone in its price range. The camera copes with its main task. It's good for taking photos and videos in good ambient light, and for creating blurry photos. But you should forget about high-quality photos and videos in the dark, as well as about zooming.

Pros

  • Lots of fine detail in outdoor portraits
  • Accurate exposure preview in photos
  • Depth estimation and blur gradient are generally accurate in portrait mode
  • Accurate ultra-wide exposure with pleasing colors outdoors
  • Accurate video exposure
  • Well controlled video noise
  • Good white balance and skin tones in indoor video clips

Cons

  • Clipping in high dynamic range scenes (photos)
  • Frequent shades of green in exterior shots
  • Motion blur in photos
  • Low detail and unnatural rendering in telephoto shots
  • AF video corruption and instability, especially indoors and in low light
  • Limited video dynamic range

I have always been interested in IT technologies. And since my previous many years of professional activity (which is design and pre-press preparation) is not possible without their help, it so happened that everything that was related to computers (for example, collecting and modernizing "hardware", as well as configuring software ) I always had to do it myself.

Well, with the advent of gadgets in our lives, the scope of my interests expanded to include them as well.

I like to study and analyze the capabilities of various devices, and for many years, before buying anything new, I always study the capabilities of each potential model for a long time and carefully, spend quite a long and painstaking work, read reviews, reviews and comparisons.

The reward for my time is usually that most of the time I really do get the best of what I can get within my budget.
