How to deny Google access to the microphone

All smartphone users are divided into two categories - experienced and inexperienced. Inexperienced people want everything to be installed and configured in their phone "out of the box", and exactly as it will be convenient for them. And when their device starts to work worse over time, because its "ashtray overflowed" - they are relieved to get rid of it. To happily buy something new in the hope that this new thing will definitely be "the one".

And experienced users understand that:

  • In the device, everything can be optimized from the very beginning, because we are all human, and some are even worse.
  • Each installed program tries to put its own order during installation and grab a piece of everything it can.

Therefore, if you want to squeeze the maximum out of your phone, what it is capable of - you need to periodically check who is using it, except you. Because almost every program, apparently with good intentions, tries to register itself in autoload, of course, in order to start faster and show you its messages in a flash.

But only RAM memory is not immeasurable, and there can be tens, if not hundreds, of applications on a smartphone. But memory does not ask for money, unlike mobile Internet. And it costs money and everyone expects the promised speed from it. And where does it come from if each application is like a little bit, and the traffic eats.

Of course, with the best intentions. And we haven't even touched on programs that simply spy on you, leaking your movements, Internet surfing history, and maybe even conversations.

How to audit your device and put it in order? There are many brands of smartphones, and each manufacturer "twists" Android to suit itself, each tries to create its own special shell, and no one can say exactly where this or that setting may be located in any phone. But the main thing is to know where to look, and, in fact, what to look for.

Therefore, as a rule, there are two ways to solve this problem:

Ban using third-party applications

You can install a specialized application. To clean, optimize and control the actions of all applications. But it is not clear what else he will do besides the useful? In addition, advanced applications have a lot of all kinds of settings, and will easily allow you to suppress your device so much that it not only cannot call itself, but also will not allow you to call it, and even send SMS. I am telling you from my experience.

Although that phone was "rooted" (had superuser Root rights to extend rights in Android), and almost all such applications work with such "rooted" phones, because they have to change system settings. But in any case, you always need to understand what you are doing and why. Better to write it down. And, of course, not to make more than one adjustment at a time, so as not to puzzle over what exactly messed everything up.

Ban using built-in tools

But it is best to try to configure the system using the tools available in it. So, let's start with the theory. There are many applications on your smartphone, and each of them has its own rights. As a rule, some of them try to get the application from you immediately after installation.

This is usually location data, access to calls, SMS, microphone, camera and files. It often happens that you forbid something, and then it turns out that it is not worth doing. Because now something is not working for you. By the way, I want to warn you that it is not always possible to predict what this or that ban will lead to. So always remember or write down exactly what you did and in what sequence.

So, program rights. They can usually be approached from two sides. First, of course, you always need to go to the settings. And there you need to find something like the "Permission Manager", where applications that are prohibited or allowed to use this permission are hidden behind each item with a name.

By the way, if in the search process you come across something like "Launch applications" ("Autostart"), this item will also be useful to you, so that you have an idea of which applications are launched when the system boots and are constantly hanging in the RAM.

Now I am describing the settings of the EMUI shell for Huawei and Honor. Although in almost any of the shells from different manufacturers, access to the application rights can always be found in the properties of the application itself in the same settings menu. It's just that in the first case you can quickly deal with all applications at once, and in the second case only with one.

So, go to the "Permissions Manager" and see what capabilities your phone has, and then go to each of them, and there you decide which of the listed applications to allow and which to prohibit. Here is an illustration with screenshots of the described actions in several systems.

I once blocked Google from accessing the microphone. And for me personally, it ended sadly, because I stopped receiving SMS from the bank. Therefore, I stood at the cash register for a long time and could not pay, because for this I had to increase the limit. Until he suddenly remembered his experiments with rights and turned everything back. And the SMS immediately started coming. Although, it would seem, what is the connection here.

So it may not be worth giving Google access to the microphone at all. Although it is up to you personally to decide.

But you can always simply limit this access, for example, in the Google Chrome browser.

У desktop with versions of Chrome, this is done using the command in the address bar chrome://settings/content

Thus, in this article, you have received all the necessary information about where to find out what rights the applications have in your smartphone. And how to try to get them to work the way you want them to, not their developers.

I have always been interested in IT technologies. And since my previous many years of professional activity (which is design and pre-press preparation) is not possible without their help, it so happened that everything that was related to computers (for example, collecting and modernizing "hardware", as well as configuring software ) I always had to do it myself.

Well, with the advent of gadgets in our lives, the scope of my interests expanded to include them as well.

I like to study and analyze the capabilities of various devices, and for many years, before buying anything new, I always study the capabilities of each potential model for a long time and carefully, spend quite a long and painstaking work, read reviews, reviews and comparisons.

The reward for my time is usually that most of the time I really do get the best of what I can get within my budget.
