According to recent reports, Apple will replace the Lightning port, but it still won't consider USB Type-C. Preparing for a future without Lightning Port, Apple has a new patent. In a recent patent filed by the United States Patent Office (USPTO), Apple outlines a three-prong "MagSafe" charger. However, this charger has different pin designs that will connect to it. While one is round, the others are flat.
From the image on this patent, it appears that this charger will be for the iPhone. The image shows the bottom of the iPhone with the charging port. The current charger uses a set of magnets that allow it to be easily attached or detached from the device. That's one advantage it has over the current Lightning port on the iPhone.
Apple hopes to turn the current "MagSafe" charging port on the back of the device into a place for accessories. This patent could lend credence to the reports. This means the "MagSafe" magnetic charger will move to the bottom to charge the "iPhone".
