Full support for Android apps in Windows 10 may appear this year

After Microsoft canceled the so-called Astoria project, the company began to look for other options for implementing support for Android applications in Windows 10. The company Samsung advanced the most in this regard with the help of streaming applications launched on a smartphone through the My Phone application; but the company decided to go further.

The idea promoted by the Latte project is to allow the Android app developer to package their apps and games in their own MSIX installer format. As reported, the project is based on the Windows subsystem for Linux and mainly involves placing Android applications in the Windows Store directory. That means you won't be able to directly run APKs on Windows 10. According to the source, Project Latte will finally allow Microsoft to bridge the gap in the number of apps for Windows and Android.

It is still unclear when we will see the real implementation of the Latte project in Windows 10 itself; but at best, full support for Android apps in Microsoft OS will appear at the end of this year.

The latest version of Windows 10 continues to gain popularity

AdDuplex published the results of a recent study on the prevalence of different versions of the Windows 10 operating system.

As of the end of February, Windows 10's latest major update (the October update, labeled 20H2) had a 13,6% share; however, it was unable to overtake the Windows 10 1909 Fall 2019 update with 26,8% to take second place.

Last year's May update of Windows 10 2004 continues to occupy the first place with a share of 41,8%. And if the share of Windows 10 1909 decreased slightly for the month from 31,2% in January; then Windows 10 2004 and Windows 10 20H2 grew by 2 and 3,2 percentage points.

On the fourth, fifth and sixth places are versions 1903 with 5,8%, 1803 with 1,7% and 1809 with 1,4%. All of them are no longer supported by Microsoft.

About 80 computers with the Windows 10 operating system installed took part in the study.

Windows 10 version 2004 update is finally available for everyone

Microsoft very gradually released the biggest update to its operating system last year, the May Update of Windows 10 (version 2004).

And only now, 8 months after the release; Microsoft has announced that the Windows 10 May 2020 Update is finally ready for "broad deployment."

Essentially, this means that Windows 10 version 2004 is free of major bugs for most configurations; and ready to install on all PCs.

Initially, Microsoft did not release the Windows 10 May 2020 Update for all PCs. This version ended up with a long list of acknowledged problems; and the company has blocked distribution to systems with certain parameters. Despite all the limitations, users have encountered Blue Screens of Death for various reasons; refusal to work with the Google Chrome browser and other similar problems.

The work to fix numerous critical failures was carried out for many months and only in January 2021; all locks and installation bans have been removed.

The "widespread" status also means that users can now directly install the Windows 10 May 2020 Update on an earlier version of Windows 10, even if the PC has compatibility issues.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is preparing to launch its next big update, Windows 10 21H1. We expect a release in May or June.

I have always been interested in IT technologies. And since my previous many years of professional activity (which is design and pre-press preparation) is not possible without their help, it so happened that everything that was related to computers (for example, collecting and modernizing "hardware", as well as configuring software ) I always had to do it myself.

Well, with the advent of gadgets in our lives, the scope of my interests expanded to include them as well.

I like to study and analyze the capabilities of various devices, and for many years, before buying anything new, I always study the capabilities of each potential model for a long time and carefully, spend quite a long and painstaking work, read reviews, reviews and comparisons.

The reward for my time is usually that most of the time I really do get the best of what I can get within my budget.
