Xiaomi has patented a technology that can determine the state of the battery

Before the popularization of built-in batteries a few years ago, one of the most common problems with smartphone batteries was battery bloat. This is usually a sign of an aging battery, but can also indicate other risks related to the battery.

According to the latest information, Xiaomi Mobile Software Co., Ltd. filed for a patent on January 20, 2017, but this application was approved on February 9, 2021. The title of the patent is “Method and device for increasing battery capacity” and it was invented by Luo Wenhui. As the name suggests, this is a method of detecting low battery and alerting the user.

The description of the patent says:

“The real revelation is in the way the battery expansion is tipped. The device contains: a battery compartment, a back cover of the battery compartment, piezo ceramics and a current detection circuit; at the same time, the piezoelectric ceramic is located on the inside of the back cover of the battery in a position facing the battery; or the bottom of the battery compartment. The current detection circuit is connected to the piezoelectric ceramic and is used to detect the current signal generated by the piezoelectric ceramic. When the piezoelectric ceramic generates a current signal, it indicates that the degree of expansion of the battery exceeds a critical threshold."

From the above description, it follows that this technology can effectively predict battery failure. Thanks to this, users can avoid the risk of over-expanding lithium batteries.

Earlier, Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun spoke to Mi Fans. At the Mi Fans event, they asked how much Xiaomi will invest in research and development this year? Lei Jun replied that Xiaomi invested $10 billion in research and development that year. In 2021, Xiaomi will continue to maintain high investment in technological research and development. According to Lei Jun, the company's expenses will grow by 30-40%. This means that he will spend between 13 and 14 billion dollars this year.

Lei Jun also said that the company will continue to recruit engineers. This will be the main focus of Xiaomi. In 2021, he expects another 5000 engineers to join the Xiaomi network. In addition to research and development, Lei Jun also revealed that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 will be released this year. In addition, there will be a Xiaomi tablet this year, probably the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5.

According to Lei Jun, there will be more ceramic cases this year. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 could be one of the many Xiaomi ceramic phones to hit the market this year. All in all, we'll have to wait a few months to find out what the Mi MIX 4 has to offer.
