The inexpensive Huawei P40 is on the way

A new Huawei smartphone has appeared in the database of the Chinese regulator TENAA, which is similar to the Huawei P40. Apparently, the company has decided to release a more affordable version of the model, which will most likely be called the Huawei P40 4G - based on the certification documents, the device does not support 5G.

It turns out that Huawei managed to stock up not only the SoC Kirin 990 5G, but also the usual Kirin 990 with an LTE modem - this version is present in the lineup. It differs not only in the modem, but also in the frequency of the processor and NPU - they are slightly lower than in the Kirin 990 5G.

Since the Huawei P40 4G is already certified, the premiere can be expected in the near future. And the cost of such a model will certainly be lower than the regular P40 with 5G support.

Huawei's HarmonyOS turns out to be an Android 10 clone

Since the announcement of HarmonyOS for Huawei smartphones, there has been a debate on the Internet about how different the new mobile platform will be from Android.

The problem was compounded by limited access to the HarmonyOS beta version. Now ArsTechnica's Ron Amadeo has been able to test it and draw conclusions.

HarmonyOS is “just Android 10,” he said. It describes HarmonyOS as a fork of Android with the EMUI user interface and a few minor changes.

However, even the user interface remained an exact copy of the version of EMUI that Huawei installs on its Android smartphones.

In Amadeo's opinion, there's nothing wrong with forking Android and running it as a self-branded operating system; but you must do it openly and transparently:

Forking Android and launching your own rebranded operating system is perfectly fine. But be upfront about it. Say "HarmonyOS is a fork of Android", not "HarmonyOS is not a copy of Android". Don't call HarmonyOS "brand new" when it's the opposite.

In early January, Huawei's top manager announced that HarmonyOS is not a copy of iOS and Android and listed the main differences.

I have always been interested in IT technologies. And since my previous many years of professional activity (which is design and pre-press preparation) is not possible without their help, it so happened that everything that was related to computers (for example, collecting and modernizing "hardware", as well as configuring software ) I always had to do it myself.

Well, with the advent of gadgets in our lives, the scope of my interests expanded to include them as well.

I like to study and analyze the capabilities of various devices, and for many years, before buying anything new, I always study the capabilities of each potential model for a long time and carefully, spend quite a long and painstaking work, read reviews, reviews and comparisons.

The reward for my time is usually that most of the time I really do get the best of what I can get within my budget.
