The source was able to obtain official sales data for the PlayStation 5 game console, which is part of Sony's quarterly report. And there are enough interesting details.
So, in the first quarter of sales (formally the last quarter of 2020, but in reality the console was only sold for a month and a half, starting in mid-November), Sony sold 4,5 million consoles. All at the PS4 level: 2013 million PlayStation 4,5s were also sold in the first quarter of 4. And while that's a lot, it doesn't match the market demand.
Additionally, judging by the supply forecast, the PS5 shortage is only going to get worse as the company only expects to ship 3 million consoles in the first quarter of this year. That is, if in 2020 there were 3 million PS5s per month, then in the first quarter of this year - only 1 million per month is guaranteed.
And the second important point: Sony has confirmed that it is selling the PlayStation 5 at a loss, although the amount of this loss is not disclosed. According to rumors circulating even before the launch of the PS5, Sony could lose around $100 on each copy of the console.
PlayStation 5 finally gets a launch date in India
Indian gamers, especially PlayStation 5 fans, can now be happy as this console is coming to them soon. After months of speculation and rumours, Sony India has finally announced that the PlayStation 5 will arrive in India on February 2nd. Additionally, the announcement also states that pre-orders will begin on January 12. The Twitter post listed official retail partners like Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital, Games The Shop, Shop at Sony Center, Vijay Sales and other select retail stores.
As we all know, Sony PlayStation 5 is a product in high demand. Therefore, the supply for this device will be very low in the first few weeks. We remind you that the first release of this device is on November 12. This means that the Indian launch is delayed by about three months.
As for the price, the hard drive version will retail for Rs 49 while the digital version will retail for Rs 990. However, due to the high demand for this console, it will be very difficult to get a PS39 at the starting price. After all, many buyers can buy this device for two to three times the launch price.
This applies to previous sales of this device on the black (unofficial) market. On Sony's part, it is trying hard to curb sales on the black market.
According to Sony, all devices purchased before the official release date and through unauthorized sellers will not be guaranteed.
For official retailers, all PS5 units will come with a 12-month warranty. In India, this means users will get a new unit if something goes wrong within one year. However, this guarantee has its own conditions. Additionally, accessories such as DualSense controllers do not come with any warranty.
