As always, gaming smartphone brands like Red Magic and Black Shark are set to release their new contenders for 2021. What is unusual is the appearance of a new ROG Phone in the first months of the year. Apparently, ASUS will leave no room for competition this year. It will bring the new ROG Phone much earlier than expected. At the moment, the device is called ROG Phone 4. Apparently, the unlucky number "4" will be missed by the brand. We have seen several teasers and leaks that reveal some details about the device. Today, we know better than anyone about the design of the device and the main specifications thanks to the TENAA certification.
Republic of Gamers' latest smartphone has just passed the TENAA certification process in China. The listing is accompanied by key features and images. The ROG Phone 5, sporting the model number Ioo5DA, is familiar from the ROG series of phones.
Main characteristics of ASUS ROG Phone 5
Under the hood of the ROG Phone 5, the Snapdragon 888 processor will be installed, which is not surprising. Interestingly, the phone will have a massive battery with a capacity of 6000 mAh. It will use dual-cell technology with two 3000 mAh batteries. This hints at ultra-fast charging technology. We're pretty sure the ROG Phone 5 will have 65W fast charging thanks to the 3C certification list. A dual-cell application is a way companies are using to avoid damage with these insanely fast charging technologies.
ROG Phone 5 will have a triple camera on the back. We have a main module with a resolution of 64 MP. The other two sensors are likely for ultra-wide and macro/depth. We don't expect a device intended for gaming purposes to have many modern cameras. Interestingly, there is an additional display on the back of the phone. According to the previously leaked teaser, this display will serve to display messages and useful information.
ROG Phone 5 boasts a 6,78-inch AMOLED display with a built-in fingerprint scanner. Unfortunately, the certification does not reveal the actual resolution of the display. Since this is a gaming device, we have good reason to believe that it has FHD+ resolution. While some 2021 flagships are betting on a QHD+ display, the FHD+ resolution is better suited for gaming phones. After all, QHD + resolution loads the GPU more than FHD +, sacrificing some performance. Thanks to the usual 1080p rendering, the phone's GPU will be able to concentrate all its power on games. Aside from the unspecified resolution, we do know that it has a 144Hz refresh rate, which means a smooth experience.
The device is expected to appear sometime in April. It will directly compete with Red Magic 6 and Black Shark 4.
