Samsung has revolutionized its range of mid-range phones with the release of the Galaxy A and M series. The quality of features and price range of these devices largely depends on their quantity. While the Galaxy A10 debuted with basic specs for the budget segment, the Galaxy A80 was an attractive device playing in the high-end segment thanks to its bezel-less display. One of the most attractive features of this phone is its bezel-less display. This is achieved due to the main camera that can be raised and flipped when you want to take a selfie. This concept made it possible to avoid holes and water drops. While the device was interesting, it didn't get a follow-up last year due to the fact that the rumored A81 device turned out to be the Note10 Lite. Now, new rumors suggest that Samsung may have a Galaxy A82 in the works.
Apparently, Samsung is working on the Galaxy A82 with the model number SM-A826B. Unfortunately, there is no confirmation that the device exists and that it comes with a flip-up camera like the A80. So far, the only company that still uses a complex camera mechanism to keep the display free is Asus with the ZenFone series. Redmi also launched the Redmi K30 Pro with a pop-up camera, but we don't think that design will return this year in the Redmi K40 Pro. The brand will most likely decide on a hole in the screen, which it has been using on most of its devices lately.
We see no strong reason for a major comeback of this technology in 2021 or beyond. Now, the best hope for bezel-less displays rests on the camera under the displays. Currently, only ZTE has a commercially available phone with this technology. This solution has some drawbacks in terms of quality and several production issues. For this reason, companies are working on solving all the remaining problems to eliminate the built-in camera. After all, it's only a matter of time before these cameras become the standard in the market.
The good thing about the Galaxy A80 and ZenFone 6/7 flip camera is that it has advanced camera settings that can also be used for selfies. Moreover, it's nice to see companies trying different things rather than sticking to common standards. After all, we still have to wait for more details about the alleged Galaxy A82. All that is known so far is that it will be a 5G phone. Which is not surprising.
