У базі даних китайського суду з’явилося рішення суду про незаконне програмному забезпеченні, встановленому і працює на смартфонах китайського виробника Gionee.
Gionee produces low-cost smartphones that are popular far beyond China. According to information from court documents, between December 2018 and October 2019, more than 20 million Gionee smartphones were intentionally infected with the Trojan. Using this trojan, cybercriminals profited by showing users unwanted ads in other ways.
The court found that Beijing Baice Technology worked with Shenzhen Zhipu Technology, a subsidiary of Gionee, to install Trojan-type malware on Gionee smartphones through the automatic update of the Story Lock Screen app. The software was installed automatically and ran on Gionee smartphones without users' knowledge.
Attackers used their method of spreading malware 2,88 billion times. Since April 2019, the number of devices covered by this method has exceeded 21,75 million, with 2019 Gionee smartphones covered in October 26 alone. The companies received about $519 million for a total of about $921 million.
The defendant was Shenzhen Zhipu Technology and its representatives. As a result, the guilty were sentenced to imprisonment and a fine.

A couple of years ago, Gionee was the leading Chinese smartphone maker with its competitive youth-oriented smartphones. Interestingly, it was one of the first Chinese brands to invest in the Indian market before Xiaomi took over. Years passed, and the company did not keep up with its competitors and, as a result, lost its former relevance. However, this year, Gionee is back with a range of mid-range smartphones aimed at buyers on a budget. After launching some interesting devices like the Behemoth 10 mAh battery, the company has recently launched a new device in the market which is called Gionee M000.
Technical characteristics of Gionee M12

The Gionee M12 features a 6,55-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels. Unfortunately, this panel doesn't come with any kind of protective coating, so you'll need to handle this panel with care. It also offers a punch-hole solution to accommodate a 16-megapixel selfie camera. On the back of the phone is a quad-camera setup consisting of a 48-megapixel primary camera with f/1.79 aperture. This module captures video with a resolution of 1080 at 30 frames per second due to chipset limitations. The module also contains a 5MP ultra-wide-angle camera and two 2MP modules, the functions of which are not disclosed.
