Wear OS got a big new update

Google's Wear OS has long had a bad reputation for instability, battery life, and constant delays. However, with the arrival of new chips for wearable devices from Qualcomm, Google decided to continue working on improving its firmware.

This year, the company has already released its biggest software performance update in several years. Yesterday, Google introduced a new version of Wear OS, the goal of which is to make tracking your health simpler and more convenient.

Google Tiles will receive a major visual change. Google is expanding its functionality with several convenient options that make it easier to provide you with important information. For example, with the Google Fit workout tile, you can access your most recent workouts with one tap and view all your metrics in a handy graph.

You can also set goals and get warnings about running too fast with one tap, without having to navigate through tons of sub-menu. The design of the "Correct Breathing" tile has also been improved, allowing you to perform the calming breathing exercise even faster.

A small change in appearance will also affect the weather section; the design will become more convenient, and the notifications will work better.

In addition to the firmware update, the Google Fit app for Android and iOS will also be updated. In general, Google's task is to do everything so that the smartphone and the watch work at the same pace; just like Apple's main competitor.

After many years, Google's WearOS is finally catching up with the competition. The platform tried its best to compete with Apple's WatchOS or Samsung's Tizen OS. After buying FitBit last year, we expected Google to eventually add health and fitness-related features to WearOS. The search giant recently invited feedback through Google's user experience research program on possible new features for future versions of WearOS.

In the survey, participants are asked about various health tracking features, such as sleep metrics, SP02 tracking, automatic detection of different categories, and pairing with medical equipment. It's worth noting that this isn't confirmation of Google's intentions to add these features to the next version of WearOS. However, the fact that Google is showing such interest is pretty good. Currently, most smart watches are mainly used as fitness trackers. It would be great for WearOS to include these features first.
